A SILVER CROSS MOTHER is chosen each year by the Royal Canadian Legion to lay a wreath during the November 11th Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on behalf of all mothers who have lost children in the service of their country since World War 1. The title is named for the Silver Cross, a medal awarded to such mothers by the Canadian Forces.

"They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!"
