A Blue Bayou For Cassie

Blue Bayou

I feel so bad I got a worried mind
I'm so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou

Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou

I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be

Gonna see my baby again
Gonna be with some of my friends
Maybe I'll feel better again
On Blue Bayou

Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou

I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be

Oh that Girl of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Well I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou
******************

A long time ago when my first marriage collapsed, I had this fantasy that if we all moved out to Vancouver Island, then all would be well.
So I moved out there to start the process, to survive I did many, many, odd jobs for work and stayed with my buddy Jim in Sooke BC.
All the while, a nagging pain within me would come up periodically.
So one day I went to the local pub to try to drink my troubles away and as I put another quarter in the juke box, Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt would play.
With each quarter it played and played and played until someone pulled the power cord from the machine to shut me up.
I was left with only silence and then it came to me. What I was missing was my daughter Cassie as we were just to far to become connected.
The west coast dream was over, I had to finally admit and so, in the middle of winter I hitched hiked 600 miles to be back with my baby.
This song always makes me think of her and I have no regrets...
